Establish a Linking Campaign
Increase the quantity of links to your web site.
Increasing the number of quality links to your web site pages is a very important factor of organic search engine optimization. For an example of how powerful link building can be, go to Google and do a search for ‘miserable failure’ and ready some of the links that talk about how President George Bush’s biography page on the White House web site once ranked #1 for this phrase.
There are two kinds of links that could exist to your web site. Reciprocal links and one way links. Reciprocal links exist when your web site links to a different web site and the return the favor by linking back to your site. In the early days of the Internet, reciprocal links were a big source of additional traffic and before search engines became popular, it was one of the few ways to navigate the web. Reciprocal links still have value but not as much as one-way links, links to your site from another site without a link back.
One way links tell a search engine that your site is valuable and relevant enough that someone would link to it with no motive other then to provide a resource to their visitors. Search engines like Google, track who is linking to you and the quality of their web site in their index. For example, a link from the NY Times web site will be more valuable then a link from Bob’s Bait and Tackle Shop.
The text that is actual in the link, called ‘anchor text’ is also very important. This text should be your keywords, not the name of your company or ‘click here’. Anchor text is factored into the search engines algorithm and is a weighted factor to the keywords you want to rank for.
